Whether you sell from a storefront on Main Street or an online shop, your name is how customers find you, remember you and recommend you.
Most trademark problems start with a name nobody checked.
You build the brand
The website, the packaging, the following. Months of work tied to one name.
Then the problem shows up
A cease and desist letter arrives, or the USPTO refuses your application because a similar mark got there first.
Now it costs more
Fighting it or rebranding is far more expensive than finding out before you invest.
How it works
Tell us your name
Enter your brand name and what you sell. If you already use the name, tell us where, and we'll leave your own accounts out.
We run the search
We check federal trademark records, including names that look or sound alike, and search for businesses already using it online.
You get a clear answer
A Low, Moderate or High rating, your biggest risks with links to each record, and what to do next.
What's in your snapshot
- Your rating: Low, Moderate or High conflict risk, based on the most serious thing we found.
- Your biggest risks: the closest trademarks and businesses, ranked, with links to the USPTO record or their website.
- Sound-alike matching: catches names spelled differently but said the same, like "Kwik" for "Quick."
- Name strength: whether your name is distinctive enough to protect, or just describes what you sell.
- Plain language: no legal jargon, and a copy you can print or save.

Book a mini clearance searchA bird's-eye view of your brand name
The Checked Mark gives you a quick, bird's-eye view of where your brand name stands. It's a starting point, not a full clearance search, and it isn't something to rely on by itself when you apply for a trademark.
What it does do is give you an entry-level read on how your name stands in your industry: whether there are signs you could be at risk of a cease and desist letter, or whether your name looks clear enough that it's worth moving forward with a trademark.
Built by a trademark attorney
The Checked Mark comes from Suazo Brand Law, a law firm focused on federal trademarks for small businesses and creators. The scoring follows the same factors an attorney looks at first: how distinctive your name is, whether a similar mark is already registered for related goods, and whether someone is already using it. When your results call for a closer look, the attorney who designed the rubric is one click away.
Questions
Is this legal advice?
No. The Checked Mark is an automated, preliminary search. It isn't legal advice or a clearance opinion, and it doesn't create an attorney-client relationship. We strongly recommend having any results reviewed by a licensed attorney.
Can I use my results to file a trademark?
We don't recommend relying on them alone. The Checked Mark is a bird's-eye view, not a full clearance search. Before you file, have a fuller search done. A mini clearance search covers that, and its cost is credited toward your registration.
What does it check?
Live federal trademark applications and registrations, including names that look or sound alike, plus businesses using similar names online.
What doesn't it check?
State trademark registrations, marks outside the U.S., logos and design marks, and businesses that don't show up online. A mini clearance search covers more.
I already have an LLC. Don't I own my name?
Not as a trademark. An LLC lets you do business under the name in your state. Nationwide rights come from federal trademark registration.
How long does it take?
